Fortune Favours the Bold
One quality I see in Elly is her undaunted spirit towards challenges. She is willing to do, willing to try and has a firm set of professional principles. This has emboldened her to push the envelope whenever necessary. I believe this is also the reason why she can sit down patiently with the clients and hear them out.
“Understanding what a client’s pain points and struggles are is very important because it allows us to think like a partner and determine if what they are looking for is feasible.
“This is because in mass recruitment, we work on multiple roles at one go. By looking at the timeline as well, we will then be able to advise the client accordingly.”
Unsurprisingly, Elly’s comprehensive style of fact finding breeds a consulting style to CXL Group’s service. Even if this is out of the normal practice, I find this approach on point because as the market changes with time, so will job requirements and hiring expectations. As such, to deliver a service that fits what a client is asking for, it is only possible when we take the consulting route, and I am happy Elly has customised her work style when the situation calls for it.
Gratitude Goes A Long Way
Out of the ordinary is also Elly’s gratitude towards those who have led and inspired her professional growth and she wasn’t shy to disclose the people behind.
“I have to thank my bosses, the clients, my team and also the candidates who have supported me.
“In particular Erant Fatiehah, Erin Sequerah, Fariz, Czarina Alia, Salinun Ghazali, Rachel Hong (Royal Selangor) and Villashini (Aegis). I learnt so much under their guidance especially in the early days and I am very thankful for that.
“Not forgetting my parents too who have always supported me,” this is despite her mother who often encouraged her to consider working in the public sector.
She also asserted that it was through her then immediate superior Erin (who currently heads CXL’s new Learning, Development & Consulting solution) that she first got the opportunity to venture north to Penang. With our eyes now set on opening another new office in the second half of 2024, I feel there’s no better person than Elly to take on the job. However, before we can dispatch her to an uncharted territory, she must swiftly train a suitable replacement to take her position.
As to why she went from a science background coding genetics at University Malaya to now HR, you’ll have to ask her directly when you meet her next to chat about your HR requirements.
